Move Electric 3: Everything you want to know

The subsidy programme for the purchase of electric vehicles is entering its third cycle, immediately after the expiry of the "Moving Electric II" programme, which was in force until 30 April. According to reports, 'Moving Electric 3' will apply from 1 May, retroactively for all vehicles sold from that date onwards. This means that the electric vehicle market in our country will not be left without a government subsidy, making it much easier for prospective buyers.

Official announcement on 20 May

The official announcement of the "Moving Electric 3" programme is expected on Monday 20 May by the political leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. However, we already know some details about the new cycle of the program, which is expected to boost the development of electrification in Greece as the subsidy amounts are increased.

Subsidy up to EUR 9,000 (+EUR 1,000)

Specifically, the subsidy for individuals is increased to 9,000 euros, which is 1,000 euros more than the 8,000 euros of "Moving Electrically II". Thus, the prices of all electricity are further reduced after the state subsidy

Withdrawal: subsidy of EUR 2,000

In addition, the amount for scrapping an old vehicle is doubled from €1,000 to €2,000. Therefore, the total benefit for a person who wants to buy an electric car can reach up to EUR 11,000.

Subsidy for an electric motorcycle or scooter

The part of the article you were waiting for is here. According to the information available so far, the maximum subsidy for the purchase of an electric motorcycle or scooter will be 3,000 euros.

With the "Moving Electric 3" programme, the maximum subsidy amount for the purchase of an electric motorcycle or scooter will increase from the current EUR 1 300 to EUR 3 000.

It is stressed that this amount may be further increased in cases:

  • large families
  • IN THE CASE OF ELDERLY PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
  •  People in need of an old two-wheeler
  • Purchase of a second battery

In particular, for electric two- or three-wheelers, the subsidy amounts to:

A) 30% of the purchase value before VAT, for categories L1e to L4e with a maximum amount of 1,300 euros

B) 40% of the purchase price before VAT, for categories L5e to L7e, up to a maximum of EUR 3 000

C) for electric bicycles, the ecological bonus shall be 40% of the purchase price before VAT, up to a maximum of EUR 800

The withdrawal of a vehicle or a two-wheeler/tricycle (excluding bicycles) is rewarded with an amount equal to EUR 2 000 and EUR 800 respectively and is optional

The purchase of a home recharging point for electronic equipment shall be subsidised up to a total amount of EUR 500 and shall be optional. If the purchase price of the E/C recharging point is less than EUR 500 before VAT, the amount of the subsidy shall be equal to the purchase price before VAT.

However, for all the details we will have to wait until the launch of the scheme, which is foreseen before the summer.

Moving Electric 3 will come into force before the summer and may be supported with additional funds in the future.

The Department for Transport seems determined to place particular emphasis on the promotion of electric vehicles in the coming period, following the strategy of other European countries. It is not excluded that the 'Moving Electric 3' programme will be reinforced with new funds due to increased demand, as happened during the second phase of the programme. We look forward with interest to the developments that will follow in the coming months.

When does Moving Electric 3 start?

According to leaks coming from the Ministry of Transport, official announcements on the Moving Electric 3 programme are expected in the coming weeks, i.e. end of May to early June. It is certain that the programme will be retroactive from 1 May. This means that, although there is currently no active Moving Electric programme (as Moving Electric 2 expired on 30 April), all electric vehicles with a purchase date from 1 May onwards will be eligible for the Moving Electric 3 subsidy.

New subsidy application procedures

From now on, the application for the subsidy will be made after the purchase of the vehicle and not before, as was the case in the previous Moving Electric. In other words, the beneficiary will submit the application after he has made the purchase, in order to speed up the process and accelerate the payment of the subsidy to his bank account.
